Bone Densitometry

Bone Densitometry for Women

Bone densitometry (DEXA) is used most often to diagnose osteoporosis, a condition that affects many women after menopause, but may also be found in men. Women tend to be more susceptible because they have smaller bones and may be affected by hormonal changes that come with menopause. Osteoporosis involves a gradual loss of calcium, causing the bones to become even thinner, more fragile and more likely to fracture or cause life-threatening falls.
